A catastrophic event with unknown cause dramatically reshapes the world. In the Discs, it is more commonly referred to as The Calamity.

The walls of the hourglass stretch and contract, and the discs turn inside out, ultimately creating a planetary surface with the discs being stretched to form poles. The land on the discs themselves survives this process remarkably well, with some tectonic reshaping but ultimately few casualties. However, the most drastic change comes when a mountain bordered corridor rises between the discs, bringing with it humanity living in a ready-made Kingdom of Tyranel.

With this rise, enormous waves form on the World Ocean, devastating large swathes of the waveside Jade Disc, causing mass casualties and a large refugee migration, and turningmuch of the land into a swamp.

The Violet Disc fares little better. The holy city of the Gnomish religion becomes submerged, while the water rushing out to the ocean on the calmside of the disc results in casualties along the rivers and waterways, and devastating droughts in areas which once served as the breadbasket of the Violet Disc. This realignment of the ecosystem causes large famines in both the short and medium term.
